Friday, 30th

No Grace play a benefit show for PBS FM radio show, Headwealth, on Saturday May 29 at The Tote, Melbourne. Kicking off at 7pm, the night also features performances from Blueline Medic, Tricity, Horsell Common, Threshold, Day I Die, Cadence and Behind Crimson Eyes.

The Rectifiers and Symbiotic hit the road this May and June for three exclusive one-off shows in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The tour is in support of The Rectifiers' single, Levy, which features seven remixes by Melbourne hip-hop crew Symbiotic. Further details »

Melbourne singer-songwriter Tim Reid launches his debut album, Any Given Day, on Saturday May 22 at The Rob Roy Hotel, Fitzroy. He will be supported by special guests Ruck Rover and Sydney's Sam Shinazzi (The C-Minus Project). Tim's band, The Matinee Idles, is also set to make its debut performance on the night.

Things Of Stone And Wood celebrates the fifteen year mark with a special two set show on Friday May 28 at The Corner Hotel, Melbourne. Special guests are Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil) and Paul Greene.

Thursday, 29th

Butterfingers' debut album, Breakfast At Fatboys, is released locally on May 3, on their own label Valley Trash Records - distributed by MGM. In support of the release, the band embarks on a national tour, kicking off late May. Further details »

Jebediah hits the road this May and June in support of the new single, First Time, in stores May 24. The single is the first to be lifted from the band's forthcoming forth album, Braxton Hicks, due for release on July on the band's own Redline Records. Main support on the tour is Jackson United from US; The Spazzys will be the special guest for the SA, VIC and NSW dates. Further details »

Crimes Of The Primary launches its debut album, Coma, on Saturday May at The Amplifier Bar, Perth. Supports on the night are Halogen, Lo Key Fu, Civilised. Throughout May, June and July, the band will be performing a number of shows in Perth and the south west region of WA, all leading up to a visit to the east coast of Australia.

The Lucksmiths play their first Australian shows in six months after their successful overseas tour. Joining the band on the tour - kicking off April 30 and winding up late May - will be London based pop duo, Pipas. Further details »

Splendour In The Grass organisers have announced the initial round of artists for this year's festival, happening Sat July 24th and Sun July 25th at Belongil Fields, Byron Bay. Spiderbait, Xavier Rudd, 1200 Techniques, Acre, Grinspoon, Ground Components, Sonicanimation, Pete Murray and Eskimo Joe make up the first round of local artists. They are joined by internationals: PJ Harvey (ONLY Australian show), MC5 (featuring guest vocalists Evan Dando & Mark Arm), Franz Ferdinand, Ozomatli, Electric Six, Jurassic 5, Ash, Money Mark and Snow Patrol. Ed Kuepper plays a handful of rare shows along the east coast this May. Front End Loader is recording a live album over two nights at The Annandale: Wednesday May 5 w/ Lovejoy (Brisbane) and Baraka; Thursday May 6 w/­ Peabody. The live album is scheduled for a August/September release.

Tamas Wells launches the debut album, A Mark On The Pane, on Saturday May 8 at the Rob Roy Hotel, Melbourne. The band is joined by special guests The Guild League and Kim Beales. The launch will be followed by the band's second national tour for the year, taking in Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Wednesday, 28th

Sunk Loto hits the road this May to support the special edition of its second album, Between Birth and Death, in stores now. The special edition contains a bonus DVD, featuring all the music videos from the band's career. Further details »

Melbourne instrumental outfit, This is Your Captain Speaking, tours Sydney this May with fellow Melbourne post-rockers International Karate. The band plays: Friday May 7 @ The Hopetoun Hotel, Surry Hills with Sea Life Park & Tides; Saturday May 8 @ The Sandringham Hotel, Newtown with Greenland & Seaworthy.

Eskimoe Joe hits the road from late May and throughout June, for the new album, A Song Is A City. Recorded in Sydney with Paul McKercher and Nick Launay, the second album has seen the band under go a lineup change with Joel Quartermain shifting from drums to join Stu MacLeod on guitars - and completing the band's live line up is Dan Bull on keyboards and Paul Keenan on drums. Kingtide launch its debut album, Weapons of Mass Consumption, on Saturday June 12 at The Alley Bar. Supports will be Brisbane City All Skas, Triple 07 and The Neurotransmitters. Tuesday, 27th

Tim Rogers and backing band, The Temperance Union, hit the road this May and June in support of his new solo album, Spit Polish. The Temperance Union consists of Ian Kittney, Shane O'Mara and Stuart Speed. Special guest for the national tour will be Nick Barker & The Backyard Six. The Lovetones launch their new EP, Stars, on Thursday April 29 at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney. Special guests are The Architects - also launching their EP, 'Shivers In The Dark' - Starboard and The Dolly Rockers Movement. Monday, 19th

The Silvermine Tapes play their first show since October when they headline the second Patterns In Static presents show at The Jade Monkey, Adelaide on Saturday May 1. Jebediah has finished recording and mixing its fourth studio album, entitled Braxton Hicks. The band recorded the album with engineer Matt Lovell at Kingdom Studios: a converted Masonic Lodge in the inner city suburb of Maylands. It was then mixed by Shaun O’Callaghan at Studio Couch in North Fremantle. The album will be released in July on the band's own label, Redline Records, and will be preceded by the single First Time.

The John Butler Trio hit the road for its Sunrise Over Sea album launch national tour, kicking off in early May and winding up in late July. Missy Higgins will be the national support from June 23 to July 18. Tickets go on sale Friday April 23 - with one dollar from every ticket sold being donated to the Refugee Action Coalition. Melbourne quartet One Hundred Years releases its debut EP, Lindenow, in April through Wheeler Dealer Records. A heady mix of arresting violin/guitar driven instrumentals and reflective, haunting songs, the EP provides an extended introduction to the music of One Hundred Years. Your Wedding Night launch its debut self-titled EP on Friday May 14 at the Ding Dong Lounge, Melbourne. Special guests Snap! Crakk!!, Always and Lakes will be supporting. Forming in early 2003, the band is made up of Genevieve Blackmore (The Bites, Radius), Kellie Sutherland (Architecture In Helsinki) and Connal Parsley. The EP was recorded over the summer by Haima Marriott at Super Melody World.

Sunday, 18th

The Fuzz has been in the studio recording its debut LP at Poons Head Studios in Fremantle. Recorded by Rob Grant (Jebediah, The Panics, Beaverloop, Kim Salmon), the CD feature 13 tracks of high energy rock'n'roll. The as yet untitled album is set to be released in late June and there will be a national tour shortly afterwards. Saturday, 10th

Disaster Plan's new album, Reality Correctors, is in stores May 3 on Sensory Projects via Inertia distribution. Joined by Laura MacFarlane, the band performs: Friday May 7 @ Rob Roy w/ Crayon Fields and special guests; Thursday May 13 @ Espy front bar w w/ Mid State Orange and A Minor Ache.

Duckdive launch its debut EP, Under The Surface, on Friday April 30 at The Empress Hotel, with supports Gorgeous and Surrogate Turnip. The band is a collective of up to 12 musicians based around 22 year old singer-songwriter Marisa Brown and her guitarist Greg Bricknell.

Good Buddha's new album, Futurhistrix, will be released in stores on May 3 MGM Distribution. In support of the release, the group will hit the road in April, for dates along the east coast. Further details »

Speedstar releases the single, Unbreakable, in stores on May 11. The single is lifted from the band's forthcoming album, Forget The Sun, Just Hold On - recorded with Tony Doogan (Belle and Sebastian, Mogwai, Reindeer Section) and due in stores May 24.

Charles Foster Kane is set to perform a rendition of David Bowie's 1972 masterpiece, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars, on Friday May 14 at The Tivoli, Brisbane. Joining the band, is a huge array of guest musicians and vocalists including members of The Go Betweens, George, Gota Cola, Screamfeeder, The Informants and many more.

Cut Copy's debut album, Bright Like Neon Love, is out this April on Modular Recordings. To coincide with the release of the album, the band will be supporting Junior Senior on its forthcoming Australian tour before heading out on its own headline tour with label mates The Presets in May. Monday, 5th

Splinta launch its new DVD on Saturday May 8 at The Armadale Hotel, Melbourne with guests Blackdogs and Jika. The DVD is made up of live footage of six songs filmed late last year at Channel Nine Studios in Richmond. The band's debut EP, Parasite, is out now.

Origami head to Sydney during the Easter weekend in support of its new EP Cruising for a Bruising, available in stores from April 12 out on Shock Records. The ladies will be appearing at the Imperial Hotel on Saturday April 10 (afternoon) as part of Scooter and Sunday April 11 (Easter Sunday) at the Annandale supporting the Von Bondies.

Sunday, 4th

Sunny Disposition have begun recording its debut EP with Craig Harnath. A single release will be lifted from the recordings this winter through Wireless Records. sonicanimation hit the road this April and May for its Defective Perspective national album tour. Joining the band on the road is the Offcuts, who have their new album Thrift Shop Boutique due out May 3. sonicanimation's new album is out now thru MGM distribution.

Brer Mouse return to Melbourne for one show only, its first in over a year, on Saturday April 24 at The Empress. The band is joined by City City City, Iron Man & Skull and I Want A Hovercraft. Singer, Alex Ashley, plays a solo show on Sunday April 25 the Rob Roy front bar with Oliver Mann (free entry). The group is currently working on its second self-produced mini-album M/otorbike to be released later this year.

Velure have started mixing its as yet untitled debut album. The album is being mixed in Norway in association with producer Erik Lloyd Wolkoff (Cafe Del Mar, Portishead, Coldplay). Richard Easton's new album Two Thousand Demolition Songs is released Monday May 3 on Candle Records. Guests on the new album include Pete Cohen (Sodastream), Claire Bowditch and Marty Brown (Art Of Fighting). The album was recorded by Karl Smith (Sodastream) and Greg Walker (Machine Translations).

The Hoey Brewed Vol 1 - a new compilation featuring 13 bands that rocked the Hopetoun stage in 2003 - is being launched over two nights at the Hopetoun Hotel in late April: Friday April 23 w/ Peabody + The Camels + Ross Orbit Stack; Saturday April 24 w/Dappled Cities Fly + The Treetops + Terrapin. The CD is limited to 1000 copies, only available at the venue. Cog take a break from preparing for its debut album to tour NSW, VIC and the ACT this April and May. At the beginning of all shows, the band will be screening John Pilger's "Breaking The Silence", a 40 minute documentary on the truth & lies about the war on terrorism. Pre-production on 10 tracks for the album has finished and the band is currently searching for a producer and shopping the demos of the new material to interested record labels. Further details »

Saturday, 3rd

Imprint launch its debut full length album, Scotoma, on Friday April 30 at the Rosemount Hotel with special guests, The Scheme, Eye Spy, and Dyslexic Fish. The album was mixed and mastered at Sovereign Studios in Western Australia. In addition to the record, the band is also launching the film clip for the track 'PVC', directed by acclaimed set designer and artistic director Steve Rice (Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Crystal, Indiana Jones).

The 2004 APRA Music Awards - honouring the achievements of songwriters and publishers - will be held on Monday May 24 at the Plaza Ballroom at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. Nominations and winners in each category are chosen either by the voting members of APRA members of the APRA Board or APRA based statistical analysis. The nominees for the 2004 awards will be officially announced in Sydney on Wednesday April 28.

Jess McAvoy launches her debut album, En Masse, on Friday April 16 at The Empress Hotel, Melbourne with special guests Folding For Air and Dylan Stewart (Greedo/The Winter Ship). The album will be available instores from May 1 through MGM.

Spod launches his new video clip for the track 'Totally Rad' over two nights at the Hopetoun Hotel, Sydney: Wednesday April 7 w/ The Miranda Boyz & Nightstick; Thursday April 8 w/ Audiophile & theHEAD. The night will feature Spod in full band mode with the Voltronixxx and the Scorpionz - Krylon and the debut of Axltronixxx, who replaces A-Blade.

Rocket Science hit the road this April for an east coast tour in support of the new single, Sex Call. Released April 12 on Modular Recordings, the single is the first taste of the band's forthcoming third album, Eternal Holiday.
