Thursday, 28th

The Gels from Adelaide hit Melbourne in September to launch their new full-length album Never Mind The Title, Here's The Gels through Adelaide label Rising Star Music. They will be performing two nights at The Green Room, Elizabeth St City on Friday Septmber 5 w/ Bakelite Age (ex-Meanies), Tinkerbell & Devil Rock 4 and then the CD launch on Saturday September 6 w/ Cockfight Shootout and The Spazzys.

Andromeda venture to Sydney for the first time for performances on Friday August 29 at the Hopetoun Hotel in Surry Hills supporting Little Birdy and Saturday August 30 at the Bull and Bush in Baulkham Hills supporting Waikiki. The band's new EP Something White and Sigmund is out now through Shock.

Tamas Wells, before the release of the new single Broken by the Rise in September, performs in Adelaide on Thursday August 28 @ Grace Emily Hotel w/ Aviator Lane and Friday August 29 @ Prince Albert Hotel. The single - taken from recording sessions in Sydney with Tim Whitten - will be launched in Melbourne on Friday September 19 at the Empress Hotel. This will be followed by a national tour in October taking in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne.

In February of this year the Songs Of St Kilda CD was released by St Kilda Youth Service. On Wednesday September 3 all the participants of said CD are getting together for a reunion show at The Duke Of Windsor, Prahran. Melia Naughton, Eva Popov, Duckdive, Tobias Cummings, Peter Kowarsky and Owen Eales will all be playing over the course of the evening. Entry is $5 or $10 including purchase of the 10 track Songs Of St Kilda CD.

Tuesday, 26th

The Beautiful Girls release Blackbird - the first single taken from their forthcoming album Learn Yourself - on September 1. The album is due for release the following month on October 1.

The Baggsmen release their second album Eleven Stages on September 1 through The Hive Label and distributed by Inertia. To mark the release the outfit will be touring up and down the east coast throughout September and October. Further details »

Friday, 22nd

The Killchoir Project, after almost four years and around 100 shows, have decided to call it a day with vocalist Danny to embark on indefinite overseas holiday. Look out for a new band entitled The New Black, featuring the remaining members of the band, which will be operational late 2003 / early 2004.

Thursday, 21st

Meem embarks on a run of dates, kicking off this Saturday August 23 at the Gaelic Club in Sydney and winding up Friday September 5 in Byron Bay, in support of his new album The Big Hoo-Hah. Keeping in tradition with Meem's unique trademark packaging, the album is available in a limited edition cotton and felt CD case. Further details »

Grimus and Teknob launch their album Bento Box on Saturday August 23 at the Public Office, 100 Adderley St, West Melbourne. Joining them for the ocassion will be Askew, Agent 86, Glitch, Toupee and Quirk

B(if)tek return to Sydney to perform at The Mandarin Club on Saturday August 23 with Sub Bass Snarl, Dsico the Mash-up King, DJs Johnnie and Gemma and Dark Network live. Also contributing to the evening's entertainment will be Tesseract on visuals. Their new album Frequencies Will Move Together is out now on Subvocal Records / Inertia.

Rambunctious release their new EP Killer Convenience in stores on October 7 on their own label Blank Vault Records and distributed by MGM. The EP will also be available at gigs during their 'Turn Off The TV' tour in September. Further details »

David McCormack and The Polaroids hit a stack of regional centres all through August and September as part of their "Say Goodnight" tour. After this tour, David will hide out in his Kings Cross studio to begin work on his next album, due out March next year. Tonjip have released their new single Missile Crisis on Brisbane's Toupee Records. The single is released on the back of high expectations raised by the response from last year's Electromatic, which garnered high rotation on Triple J and rave reviews from in the press.

Offcuts hit the road from August 21 until September 13 in support of their new double EP entitled The Paper And Plastic Bag, out now on Rubber Records. The double EP release showcases the two aspects of the band, with one EP dedicated to electronic music, the other to music with guitar, bass and drums. Further details »

Thursday, 14th

Bidston Moss launch their new release, simply titled EP, on Saturday August 16 at the Tote. They are joined by special guests Mrs Pinkwhistle, Paper Planes and Avon.

Clare Bowditch, Anthony Atkinson and The Millers Tale team up for a night of acoustic based tunes at The Rob Roy Hotel on Wednesday August 20. The show starts at 8.30pm; drop into Polyester Records to pick up a postcard which will get you the discounted entry of $5.

The Lucksmiths return home from a successful US tour to launch their new 6 track EP A Little Distraction with handful of dates in late August / early September before they continue their overseas tour in the UK, Spain and Sweden. Joining them on this whirl wind tour of Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle and Brisbane will be Anthony Atkinson. The EP is released Monday September 1 on Candle Records and distributed by MGM. Museum is a new night of instrumental and lo-fi music plus visuals on the last Friday of every month in the renovated band room upstairs at The Planet, Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. The opening night on Friday August 29 features performances by All India Radio, I Want a Hovercraft and Adlerseri. The Forresters have released their debut album Skindeep on new independent label Tom Thumb Records. The Sydney outfit is the brainchild of singer / songwriter Anthony Bautovich from the trans-Pacific pop ensemble The Orange Humble Band. Joining Anthony on the recording is an array of guest musicians including Nick Kennedy (Big Heavy Stuff) on drums, Steve Balbi (Universe) on bass, Matt Galvin (Eva Trout) on guitar and lap steel, Cameron Bruce (The Polaroids) on keyboards and Charlie Owen (Dark Horses) on guitar and dobro. Singles Club is a new split 7" vinyl club set up by Melbourne based indie pop label Low Transit Industries. Sarah Blasko and her band head out on the road for a few quick shows with Gelbison this August. They perform Friday Aug 15 @ Crest Hotel, Sylvania; Saturday Aug 16 @ Northern Star Hotel, Newcastle; Friday Aug 22 @ Harbord Diggers, Harbord.

Avon tour Melbourne in August to promote their album National Frisbee Day. They perform Thursday Aug 14 @ Esplanade Hotel front bar, Friday Aug 15 @ The Pony and Saturday Aug 16 @ The Tote Hotel supporting Bidston Moss.

The Sailors tour Sydney this month with a headline show at the Annandale Hotel on Thursday August 14 and support slot with Further at The Hopetoun Hotel on Friday August 15. The tour is to launch their new 9 track mini-album Failure Depression Suicide, featuring live favourite a cover of 'Popcorn'. September sees the group venture overseas to play 30 gigs in 30 days covering half of America, followed by dates in Spain, Holland, Germany, France and Switzerland.

The Mess Hall head out on the road this month for a brief run of dates in Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong. They perform Saturday Aug 9 @ The Annandale Hotel, Friday Aug 15 @ The Tote, Collingwood and Saturday Aug 16 @ The Barwon Club, Geelong. Special guests at all shows are Brisbane's The Tremors featuring members of Six Ft Hick, Gazoonga Attack and Mexico City.

Gerling hit the road from late August and through out September for a national tour in support of their new album Bad Blood!!!, in stores August 18 on Festival Mushroom. The tour is the band's first national headline tour in two years. Further details »

Antiskeptic release their new album Aurora in stores from August 25. In support of the record the boys will hit the road for a national tour from August 27 to September 28. Thinktank and Gyroscope will join them on the road for the majority of the dates. Further details »

Monday, 4th

Stronger Than Hate hit the studio in October to record their debut album, this will be preceded by the band opening for Sweden's Soilwork in Sydney on September 13 at the Gaelic Club. The album, to be released on Resist Records, is the follow up their 2002 EP As Seasons Pass. In the mean time the band perform August 16 at the Vic On The Park w/ Last Nerve and Means To An End.

Saturday, 2nd

Livid organisers have announced the first round of acts for this year's festival in October. The line-up so far is The Living End, Frenzal Rhomb, Resin Dogs, Rocket Science, Butterfingers, Gelbison, For Amusement Only plus internationals Linkin Park, The White Stripes, Jurassic 5, Black Rebel Motorcyle Club, The Roots, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Turbonegro and Goldfinger. It happens in Sydney on Saturday October 11 @ Moore Park, Melbourne on Sunday October 12 @ Melbourne Park and Brisbane on Saturday October 18 @ RNA Showgrounds.
