Monday, 30th

Australian rock legend Lobby Loyde passed away on Saturday April 21 after a long battle with cancer. Since being diagnosed two years ago, Lobby was able to fulfill two of his dying wishes over the past three months. Firstly Lobby joined his fellow band mates, Gav Carroll, Trevor Young and Bobsie (Ian) Miller to perform their favorite Coloured Balls songs at the Corner Hotel in December, 2006. Secondly in 2007, Beyond Morgia, Lobby’s previously unreleased sci-fi influenced/space rock album (originally recorded in 1976), was released after the master tapes were discovered at a rubbish tip.

I Heart Hiroshima has finished recordings its debut album with with Jon Gardner at Megaphon and Velvet Sound in Sydney. The album is slated for a mid year release with the first single set to be Ropes.

Baseball farewell Australia with one last show on Saturday May 12 at Exile - 125 Smith Street, Fitzroy - before embarking on an extensive tour of Europe this June and July. Supports on the night are Shooting At Unarmed Men, The Bad Luck Charms, and Kind Winds. The European tour begins in Finland, and travels via Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia, before heading into Italy, Spain, France and the UK. In other news the band has finished recording its long awaited debut album, with the working title of Animal Kingdom.

Cut Copy heads out on the road from mid May through to early June for its first headline tour for the year. The tour will see the band previewing tunes from its forthcoming long player, due out in July, with the first taste being the current single Hearts On Fire. The Smallgoods preview tracks from their forthcoming album Down On The Farm with a special full-band show on Thursday May 3 at The Tote, Melbourne. Supports on the night are Joni Lightning and Fearless Vampire Killers. The album is due for a mid-year release.

Monday, 23rd

Blue Mountains five piece Belles Will Ring's debut album Mood Patterns is out now on Architecture Label and Cross Country thru Inertia Distribution. Produced by the band's Liam Judson and assisted by Ivan Lisyak at the Three Shade Green studios in the Blue Mountains, the long player was mixed by Wayne Connolly at Velvet Studios in Sydney and mastered by Don Bartley at Benchmark. Friday, 20th

Further has just finished recording an album's worth of new material at Headgap Studios in Melbourne with Neil Thomason (ex-Ricaine). The band will preview its new tunes when it supports My Disco at the Annandale Hotel on Friday April 27 along with Sydney's Naked On The Vague.

The Cops release their second album Drop It In Their Laps in stores April 28 on Inertia Recordings. The album was co-produced by front man Simon Carter and Paul McKercher, and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound in New York.

Parkway Drive heads into the studio this May to record the follow up to its 2005 album. Recording at Zing Studios in Boston, the group will once again team up with producer, Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. The band is currently in the midst of a US tour, to be followed by a tour of Europe and Japan in June, and a month of dates on the US Vans Warped Tour throughout July / August. Further details »

Euphonic releases its double a-side single Sleeper / Life On A Chain in stores May 12 on RiSH records. In support of the release the band heads out on east coast during May and June. Further details »

Thursday, 19th

Damn Arms release their latest EP Home Wrecker in stores April 21 through Timberyard Records. The extended player was produced by Nick Littlemore and features remixes by Jitset of Test Icicles, and Midnight Juggernauts. The band is currently in the midst of an east coast tour with label mates Teenager. May will see the band head to the UK having been invited to play the prestigious Great Escape Festival. Pauhaus is a mini-festival set to happen Saturday 9 June as part of the re-launch of the Brisbane Powerhouse on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Curated by Paul Piticco (Dew Process Recordings / Splendour in the Grass), the events plans to help put the Powerhouse back on Brisbane's live music radar with a line-up of: The Grates, The Panics, Expatriate, Red Riders, Dappled Cities Fly, Macromantics, Purple Sneakers feat PhDJ, Bit By Bats, Whitley, Wons Phreely, Operator Please, Violent Soho, Yves Klein Blue + more to be announced. Wolf & Cub is about to head out on the road this April and May for a national tour in support of the new single March Of Clouds. Released April 28, the single features non-album track “Chameleon and the Snakes” and the Serge Santiago dub remix of “This Mess”. Special guest on the tour will be Perth's Snowman. The Beasts Of Bourbon releases Little Animals, the band's first album of new songs in nine years, in stores April 21 through Albert Productions. The group will be touring in June with tour dates to be announced soon.

Wednesday, 18th

Splendour In The Grass returns for its seventh birthday this August. Held once again at Belongil Fields in Byron Bay, this year's event will happen at the slightly later date of Saturday Aug 4 and Sunday Aug 5. The first round of acts are: Powderfinger, Grinspoon, Sarah Blasko, The Cat Empire, Blue King Brown, Sara Tindley, Hoodoo Gurus, Hilltop Hoods, Dirty Three, Expatriate, Josh Pyke, Airbourne, and Byron Bay locals The Ride; plus internationals Artic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chefs, Lily Allen, Tilly & The Wall, The Hold Steady, Hot Chip, Klaxons, and The Shins. Tickets go on sale Monday May 14 from www.splendourinthegrass.com, with a special green ticket available where punters can pay an extra $3.50 to offset their travel carbon emissions.

Instrumentalists group This is Your Captain Speaking plays its first Australian show since touring across Europe on Thursday April 19 April at the East Brunswick Club. The band will perform tracks from its critically acclaimed debut album Storyboard as well as material from the forthcoming sophomore release. Guests on the night are All India Radio and Emily Williams.

Tuesday, 3rd

Sparkadia is set to head to London, where the band will spend three weeks at Miloco Studios recording its debut album with producer Ben Hillier. The recording plans have been arranged via Sparkadia's UK label Ark Recordings with whom the band signed in late 2006. Before heading to London the band plays two all ages shows in Sydney: The Great Escape on April 7 and Shoreshocked on April 14.

Rastawookie releases its debut album Perfectly Ordinary on April 21 through Pollyannaism / MGM. The band launches the record in Sydney on Saturday April 21 at The Metro, followed by an extensive east coast tour through out April, May and June. Further details »
